Welcome to the Steelville R-III School District! To ensure that all of our students are able to learn within a safe, healthy, and germ-free environment, we would like to remind you of a few of our district policies as we start the new school year: 

• The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services have set forth school immunization requirements for every child who attends public school.  PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR STUDENT HAS AN UP-TO-DATE IMMUNIZATION RECORD ON FILE BEFORE THE START OF EACH SCHOOL YEAR. Your child will NOT be able to attend school unless he/she has been adequately immunized and their information is up-to-date. If you have any questions regarding required immunizations, feel free to contact your school nurse or you may also contact our local Health Department at 573-775-2555.

• If your child requires ANY medication to be administered at school (prescription or over-the-counter), you must complete a separate form that can be obtained from your school nurse or on the school website. This form will need to be updated each school year.  A physician’s signature is also required for ALL prescription medications.   

• ALL medication must be in the original container or prescription bottle and brought to the school by a parent or guardian -- STUDENTS MAY NOT BRING IN ANY MEDICATION. This includes such medicines as Tylenol and Ibuprofen. 

• All medications will need to be picked up by a parent or guardian at the end of each school year.

• If your child develops a fever of 100.0° or greater, please keep your child home until they are fever-free without the use of Tylenol or Ibuprofen for 24 hours.  

• Please do not send your child to school if he or she has had diarrhea or vomiting within the past 24 hours. 

• If your child has been diagnosed with a contagious illness (strep throat, pink eye, etc.), please contact your school nurse to verify when they may return back to school. Typically, students may return back to school after 24 hours of starting antibiotics for bacterial illnesses and such.

• If your child has asthma, diabetes, food/drug allergies, seizures, dietary needs/restrictions, or any other special health requirements, please contact your school nurse to obtain and complete the required forms that will need to be kept updated and on file throughout the school year. It is extremely important that we receive this information in a timely manner so that your student’s medical needs may be met during their time at school.
